Italy

www.italiantourism.com.  The official site of the Italian Government Tourist Board for North America.  A wealth
of information for anyone Italy-bound.  In English.

www.enit.it.  The Italian State Tourism Board.  Great information on all regions of Italy.  Has English version;
simply click on the British flag.

Tuscany

www.turismo.toscana.it.  The official site for the tourism board for Tuscany.  Great info on hotels, agriturismos,
campsites, etc.  English version.

www.terraditoscana.com.  A great resource for learning about Tuscany.  Has helpful descriptions of principal
tourist destinations and a great photo gallery.  Also has links to local tourist boards of various towns.  English
version.

www.volterratur.it.  The official website of the municipality of Volterra.  Good information on this historic city and
the surrounding region.  English version.

www.bardotti.com.  A commercial site devoted to the Chianti region of Tuscany.  Excellent information on lesser-
known destinations.  Good photos too.  In English.  

www.valdichiana.it.  The Val di Chiana is the region along the eastern edge of Tuscany on the border with
Umbria.  Its principal tourist destination is Montepulciano.  This site provides some historical information, and
lists hotels and restaurants.  English version.

http://new.elbalink.it.  This is the official tourism site for the island of Elba.  It is a great site for researching
beaches, hotels, etc.  English version.

www.agriturismolacasaccia.com.  The website for La Casaccia agrtiturismo west of San Gimignano.  A good
example of this type of accom
modation with a lot of useful information on the region.  English version.

Umbria

www.umbriaonline.com.  This is a commercial site, but it offers thumbnail descriptions of all towns and many
small villages in Umbria together with hotel and restaurant information.  English version.

www.aboutumbria.com.  Another commercial site.  Not quite as useful as umbriaonline.com, but worth checking
out.  English version.

www.regione.umbria.it.  This is the official government site, but it is in Italian only.

Marches

www.turismo.marches.it.  This is an extremely well-done government site.  It has a wealth of information about
this region with links to other resources.  English version.        

www.marcheworldwide.org.  An English language site set up by the Marches Regional tourism board.  It links you
to many of the same sites as turismo.marches.it.  A great resource for more detailed information about this
region.                

Lazio

www.regione.lazio.it.  The Lazio region includes Rome and the area from the Fiumicino airport north to Lago di
Bolsena.  The first few days of any tour originating at Fuimicino travels through this area.  This official website
contains a lot of information, unfortunately in Italian only.

www.viterboonline.com.  Viterbo is the principal city in northern Lazio.  This excellent English language site
provides a wealth of information about the region.

Bicycle Touring

www-math.science.unitn.it/bike.  The Trento Bike Pages, the greatest compendium of bicycle touring knowledge
and experience on the Web.  This site contains hundreds, maybe thousands, of bike tour travelogues from
virtually every country you can think of.  An incredible resource.  Note the hyphen after the www.  

www.florencebikepages.com.  The Florence Bike Pages, an English language online bicycle touring guide to
Florence written by a native.  Offers several itineraries complete with maps, altitude profiles, etc.  My only
observation is that the author apparently doesn’t mind riding in heavy traffic.

www.sheldonbrown.com/articles.  This guy is the guru, and you don’t have to climb the mountain to consult him;
he has put it all on the Web.  Everything you ever wanted to know about bikes, biking, bike touring, bike repair,
etc.  An incredible resource for cyclists.  

www.velovista.net.  “Your link to an on-line community of adventure cyclists.”  Good advice on the soup-to-nuts
of bicycle touring.  Many useful links.

www.adventurecycling.org.  The Adventure Cycling Association:  “No one knows more about bicycle touring than
our organization and its 41,100 members.”  A good website with a lot of useful information.  

Miscellaneous

www.slowtrav.com.  Slow Travelers is a great website that advocates traveling slowly by renting “villas” in Europe
from which you take side trips.  Has a lot of excellent information on living and traveling in Italy and elsewhere.

www.onebag.com.  “The Art and Science of Traveling Light.”  A must read for bike tourists.

www.cascade.org.  The Cascade Bicycle Club website.  Primarily devoted to cycling in the Pacific NW, but a lot of
useful information, links, etc.

www.cyclery.com.  "The largest bicycle information resource on the web since 1995"  A huge compendium of links
to all things cycling.

www.highlandsranchcycling.com    Home of the Highlands Ranch Cycling Club, one of the largest and most active
clubs in Colorado.
